Who can apply
An applicant must have held a passport from a country or region other than Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan for a minimum of four years.
According to the undergraduate programs admissions requirements issued by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 2020,
- An applicant who has held a non-Chinese passport since birth but whose parents hold Chinese passports or one of the parents holds a Chinese passport, is not considered a Chinese national.
- For an applicant, as described above, to take an undergraduate program in Mainland China from 2021, s/he is to meet the following requirements:
- S/he has held a passport from a country or region other than Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan for a minimum of four years;
- S/he has resided in a country or region other than Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan for at least two years in the past four years. For instance, for 2022 entry, an applicant must have lived overseas for at least two years (or at least nine months each year) from 2018 to April 30, 2022.
